According to Exhibitor Relations, The Social Network debuted at No. 1 with an estimated $23 million in its opening weekend. The film bested Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole ($11 million) and Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps ($10.5 million) for the top spot. The film, based on Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg's rise to internet fame, marks Timberlake's second No. 1 movie; Shrek The Third debuted with $121 million in 2007. Prior to signing on to play Napster founder Sean Parker in The Social Network, Timberlake admitted he was initially hesitant to take on the role.
