Crystal Bowersox, 24, of Toledo, Ohio and Lee DeWyze, 24, of Mount Prospect, Ill came into Wednesday's American Idol finale with a narrow voting gap between them, host Ryan Seacrest said. The show made the most of Simon Cowell's last appearance as a judge. If DeWyze wins, his first single will be Beautiful Day, while Bowersox will release Up to the Mountain. American Idol is still America's most watched TV show but has seen audiences slip by about 9 per cent this year. In recent weeks, less than 20million viewers have been tuning in as the contest neared its climax, compared with almost 30million in 2006. With Cowell's departure, commentators have suggested ratings will continue to fall. Cowell's replacement on American Idol has not yet been announced.
